Science

Our science curriculum is designed to maximise our students’ chances of achieving a qualification by the end of year 11. We currently work towards AQA Certificates or GCSE in science as well as giving the students a broad-based practical appreciation of the science and technology they are going to require to thrive in adult life.

We cover six topics in science:

  • The Human Body
  • The Environment
  • Chemistry in Our World
  • Elements, mixtures and compounds
  • Energy and Forces
  • Electricity and Magnetism.

We have a spiral curriculum that each year builds on the previous one which enables students to constantly revisit topics and build up their knowledge and understanding.

Our overarching aim is to prepare the students for independent life in a world that is becoming more and more reliant on them having a broad understanding of science and technology. Students will have the opportunity to take formal exams if it is appropriate, if it is not then they will have many opportunities to practise their experimental and research skills whilst gaining a sound foundation of scientific knowledge.

By the end of Keystage 4 the students will have developed:

  • Scientific Thinking
  • Experimental skills and strategies
  • The ability to evaluate and analyse
  • Their scientific vocabulary
  • A basic understanding of Physics, Chemistry and Biology
