PSHE

In PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education), our intention is to help students develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future — staying healthy, safe, and prepared for life and work in modern Britain.

Mental health and wellbeing at the centre

We place real importance on mental health and wellbeing, making sure students are well-prepared for the challenges ahead of them. We aim to equip students with the knowledge and confidence to take care of themselves, and to know how to get support if a problem arises — building the resilience and personal qualities that help students become successful, productive members of society.

Staying safe online and offline

In a world where so much of life happens both on and offline, we aim to give students the skills to stay safe and healthy in both — helping them manage their digital and real-world lives in a positive way.

A curriculum that reflects our students

Our school has an ethnically diverse population, and many students have specific needs or come from disadvantaged backgrounds. We make sure the timing and delivery of PSHE sessions reflect and respect the backgrounds and ethnicity of our students, so every topic is taught sensitively and relevantly.

Our curriculum is built around three strands:

  • Health and wellbeing — physical and mental health, and how to look after both.
  • Relationships — building healthy, respectful relationships with others.
  • Living in the wider world — preparing students for life, work and their place in modern Britain.
