Personal Development

Personal Development is a chance for students to explore what makes them who they are. Students create projects based on their own personal interests, experiment with new forms of craft, and work towards their own personal aspirations.

A therapeutic environment

All of this takes place in a therapeutic environment, where students can relax and settle — making sure their wellbeing is in the right place before moving into their next lessons.

Life Skills

Life Skills equips students with the practical, everyday knowledge they need to navigate independence with confidence. From buying a train ticket to managing a budget, students build the kind of real-world competence that isn't always taught in a traditional classroom.

Sessions cover:

  • Budgeting and money management — understanding income, outgoings, and how to plan ahead
  • Travel and navigation — booking and using public transport, reading timetables, planning journeys
  • Meal planning and cooking — putting together simple, balanced meals and shopping within a budget
  • Hobbies and leisure — discovering new interests and activities to enjoy outside of school
  • Everyday independence — the small, practical skills that add up to real confidence in day-to-day life

Employability

Employability helps students understand the world of work and start preparing for it with purpose. Whether they're years away from their first job or ready to start applying, students leave with practical tools and a clearer sense of direction.

Sessions cover:

  • Exploring job sectors — researching different industries and career paths to find what interests them
  • Writing a CV — learning how to present their skills and experience clearly and professionally
  • Understanding how companies work — the structure, roles, and everyday workings of a business
  • Interview preparation — building confidence and skills for real job interviews
  • Workplace expectations — understanding professionalism, communication, and what employers look for
